June
On June 12, Bradyn competed in her last Jiu Jitsu tournament for the season. This one was was back at Budo Vancouver. We were so pleased that Aunty Ita and Uncle Dallas, Brent, Shelly, Cameron and Madison all came out to cheer Bradyn on.
Being back at Budo meant some more serious competition. Although she didn't place in the Gi division, she did get a participatory medal.
In No Gi, Bradyn was awarded Bronze. So proud of Bradyn for a great season. I think we're all counting down the days until the next tournament in September.
On June 18, we headed to our first Vancouver Whitecaps soccer game with Dallas & Ita, Molly and Brian. We got there a little early, so Bradyn joined in on a game of human foosball. What a riot.
Earlier in the day, we picked up Bradyn's first glasses. We found out a month before the end of school that Bradyn was having trouble seeing the board. Sure enough, a trip to the optometrist confirmed that she needed glasses. The funny part was that before her appointment, Bradyn was happily trying on all kinds of frames. As soon as she knew she needed them, she got mad and refused to pick a pair. In the end, we found 2 pairs that Bradyn looks super cute in. The best part of the whole experience was the look on her face when she put them on for the first time. "I can see!!" The poor kid had no idea how clear things should be.
When we got to our seats for the soccer game, we chatted for a bit and checked things out. Then, I asked B if she was ready to put on her glasses. Once again, the look on her face when she put them on was priceless. I feel bad that we didn't notice she had been struggling with her sight, but we sure are happy that she can now see clearly.
Celebrating the last day of Grade 4. Yes, she did wear her fancy Christmas dress to school. Bradyn says she wanted to look nice for the Grade 5 students that were heading off to Middle School, but I think she wanted to make and impression on Ben, so he'd remember her over the summer.
