Jiu Jitsu

So apparently I have been VERY negligent in keeping my blog up to date with pictures tracking Bradyn's adventures.  3 months?  Whoops!

One of the coolest things that's been happening with us is Bradyn's new fitness activity.  Bradyn finished another round of gymnastics in June.  For a number of reasons, we decided that she would not be going back for another session in September.  For one, several of her class friends were moving on.  For two, once February rolls around and she's 10, Bradyn will have to move from a weekend class to a weeknight class at 7:30.  That just does not work with our schedule, Bradyn's homework or her sleep.  So, we needed a new activity to keep Bradyn active.  In preparation for doing wrestling when she hits Grade 6, Kevin was very enthusiastic about getting our girl into martial arts.  On June 14, we went for an introductory meeting at West Coast Martial Arts.  We were introduced to Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing.  The owner/instructor was wonderful, and gave Bradyn a private 30 minute session.  We signed up for a one month trial but I think we all knew it would be permanent, as it now is.  Although she's just starting, Bradyn has quickly caught on to all of the holds and techniques.  For now she's going once a week but what's great is that we can pick the class that works for us.  Usually it's Jiu Jitsu on Sunday morning, but sometimes it's Kickboxing Saturday morning or, if we can swing it, a combo Jiu Jitsu/Kickboxing class on Friday night.  My favourite is the Kickboxing, but Bradyn and Kevin both love the Jiu Jitsu because of the grappling and floor work.  Either way, I'm pretty sure this is going to be a long term deal.

So proud to be wearing her Gi

This is one tough kid - handstand push-ups!  Love it!
