Her First Homework Assignment

On Monday night we put the finishing touches on Bradyn's project for her first 'real' day at kindergarten. (OK, so we actually did the whole thing that night, but a lot of thought and planning had gone into it for the week prior.) When we went to the welcome meeting back in June, we were given a poster to add special mementos to over the course of the summer.
Looking back, we've had a few pretty fun months!

On Wednesday, rather than riding the bus in the morning, Kevin took Bradyn to school to ensure she remembered where her classroom was and help her get settled. They arrived a little early so Bradyn played tour guide.... "This is my school"...

"...And this is my classroom."

She looks absolutely adorable, peeking through the window to see where she's going to end up.

Mme Broughton helps Bradyn with her backpack. Yes, this is her teacher, not a student helper. During our parent-teacher interview, we discovered that Mme Broughton began her French immersion career at the same elementary school that Kevin and Uncle Dallas attended. Unlike Kevin, who started in the 70's, we're pretty sure Mme Broughton started in the 90's. (Nah.... we don't feel old.)

All smiles. Good start to a great day.

Bradyn wanted to take the bus to Westwood Montessori after school, so Kevin just stood back to observe the process. All the kids (K - 5) have to line up in their designated spot with Ms Elizabeth and wait for Ms Laudan to come with the bus. With 29 Westwood kids needing transportation to 2 different schools, it's a bit of a logistical issue this year but those Westwood ladies have it all under control.

Just missed her getting on (you can barely see her blue backback)...

...but she's all smiles once she's on the 'big girl' bus.

When I got home from my course on Wednesday night, I was desperate to hear EVERYTHING about Bradyn's first day. What she did, if she made friends, did they go outside at recess, who she sat beside at lunch, did Mme Broughton talk to them in French or English... Several times I caught her singing quietly to herself and when I asked her to speak up, it was "Bonjour mes amis, Bonjour" over and over, followed by "Au revoir mes amis, au revoir". When I asked her if she learned an actual sentence, she said "Bonjour. Comment ca va? Ca va bien. That means Hello. How are you? I am fine." Well OK then Miss Smarty Pants. Guess I better brush up on my French or she's going to blow past me in no time! :-)

Congratulations on your first official day. It sounds like you have so much to remember. Don't forget that when Nana and Poppa come at Christmas we only speak and understand the English language. I am looking forward to hear you speak in French though. Hugs and Kisses
