Art Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

I have a confession. I don't know about other parents, but one of the most exciting things that can happen in my day is to pick Bradyn up from daycare and find that she did some artwork, that we get to take home. It started when she was at 123 ABC, and it hasn't stopped. I don't care what it is... a painting, a scribble on a scrap of paper, a clay sculpture (I think it's a pen holder), a popsicle stick frame, a styrofoam ball with blue and brown blotches representing the north and south poles (still one of my absolute favourites because she'll pick it up from time to time to show me where she wants to go)... it's all wonderful. I don't even care when I know there's no possible way she did it - if it's got her name on it, I melt. For Christmas 2 years ago, Bradyn and Kevin gave me 5 framed pieces of Bradyn's fingerpaintings from daycare. You have no idea how happy it makes me to look at them, hanging above Bradyn's bed. (Just for old time's sake, click here, and see my favourite.)

Quite some time ago, Kevin decided that when Bradyn signed a card for someone, it would be a ladybug (what else?). Last summer, Bradyn decided it was time for her to start drawing the ladybug herself. I still remember getting misty-eyed when I saw this picture. My baby could draw!

There were more waterworks a few weeks ago when I asked Bradyn to draw a picture on Aunt Sherri & Uncle Jason's anniversary card. I watched in awe as she drew. Not only did she provide a running commentary on what she was drawing, but I could actually see that she was drawing people! This materpiece is titled 'Bradyn in the tower'. Can you see it? Mommy has beautiful long hair, and is coming to resue her. But watch out for those rain clouds!

Too precious.
