Is That A Tooth??!!
On Saturday I had my finger in Bradyn's mouth (why, I don't remember) and felt something sharp. I thought, that can't possibly be a tooth, can it? She isn't even 5 months old yet (at least not for 3 more days anyway). Her gum was a bit transparent and in a dark corner of my baby-brain, something triggered and I remembered hearing somewhere that that was a sign of a tooth coming in. On Sunday there was definite white there. It hasn't broken through the gum yet, but our baby is getting her first tooth - the right, lower centre one gets first honours. Last night I was so sad thinking about it - our baby isn't such a baby anymore! She's growing up so fast!I thought Brady was a real trooper with the only visible signs of teething being the constant river of drool on her chin and need to shove her fist in her mouth. Until today. Little Miss Cranky-Pants has arrived in our home and the poor thing is pretty inconsolable a lot of the time. We've tried frozen facecloths to chew on, a teething ring cooled in the fridge and Baby Motrin. Any suggestions to get us through this process with our sanity are much appreciated.

Teething! FUN! The good news is that in about a week that little tooth will be through (as will it's friend...they come in two's), but she'll probably be cranky for that time.
We found that tying a knot in a little cloth and dipping it in ice cold water usually did the trick, but I think it's as much a factor of distracting them as it is soothing them.
Tempra worked as well, sometimes some really cold water (I think this is when Kaylin developed her love affair with water) helped out.
The drool though, that gave the poor Kegger chapped chin something wicked.
By the way, Kaylin (who's in my lap right now) says "Ba dasa ningh ningh ningh oooh oooh ningh" which means either "Hi cousin Bradyn, sorry to hear about your mouth, but you'll love your toothies when they come in.", or "Get me down off your lap dad", my Kaylin to English translator can be off some times.
Yeah, unfortunately there's little else you can do but lots of cold things to chew, Tylenol and cuddles. Oh yeah, and when the top one comes in don't stick your finger in her mouth anymore! Ouch.
