October Jiu Jitsu

Bradyn had 2 Jiu Jitsu tournaments in October.  We started the season with the in-house West Coast Martial Arts tourny on Sunday October 2.  Bradyn fought hard in the Gi division but her smaller size definitely put her at a disadvantage in this group.

I can't speak for Bradyn or Kevin, but I'm not a big fan of 'participatory' medals.  All good though.

Bradyn did much better in the No-Gi division, and got a great win with an arm bar.

On Saturday October 22 we headed to BCIT for the Western Canadian Martial Arts Championships.  The day started out with such promise.  Bradyn was reunited with her friend Kyndra from the US that she met at this tournament last year, there was lots of excitement and we were all looking forward to a great day.  Due to some scheduling issues, Bradyn didn't get her first match in until after 12:30 (we had arrived at 8:30).  She also got hurt in her second match so that was it for the day.  She had to pull out of the No-Gi division because her neck was just too sore.

I was able to convince Bradyn to let go of her neck so we could get a photo, but she couldn't muster up a smile (or even look at the camera).  Poor kid.  Not to worry though, she was running around later in the day and only had a faint twinge of pain the next day.  In all honesty, my favourite part of the day was going to dinner with a couple from the US and their 3 sons.  We've spoken with them at a few tournaments over the last year.  We had a really good time, and look forward to seeing them again at the next tournament.

Bradyn has been training in the girl's/women's class on Tuesday nights for about 6 weeks now and loves it.  She also earned another white stripe!  So proud of our Bradybug for all of her hard work.
